In June St. Olaf faculty member Jun Qian introduced two Western clarinet concertos to Chinese audiences. Throughout the month he played Malcolm Arnold's Clarinet Concerto No. 2 and Donato Lovreglio's Opera Fantasia "La Traviata" -- a world premiere as it was orchestrated by Qian according to Verdi's orchestral writing in the opera. He performed the two pieces with the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra in Xiamen, China.

While in China, Qian also taught a clarinet master class for many young clarinet students. Back in the States he taught at the St. Olaf Summer Music and the Lutheran Summer Music camps. He also will play two chamber recitals in August as well as recital and master classes in Texas.
