The Division of Student Life at St. Olaf College has announced that Registrar and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Cisar is the recipient of this year's Gertrude Hilleboe Award for Faculty Involvement in Student Life. She came to St. Olaf in 1978 as a member of the French language faculty.

Cisar's nomination read in part, " ... it is precisely her background as a faculty member, department chair and member of many committees that produces the degree of commitment in and outside of the classroom that is well beyond the average in her interactions with students. Mary always listens to students with an open mind and asks questions before she makes decisions."

Cisar will be given a plaque, and her name will be placed on an additional plaque in the Dean of Students Office that contains the name of each faculty recipient of this annual award.

The award is named after the late Gertrude Hilleboe in honor of her 40-plus years at St. Olaf as a faculty member and dean of women. Hilleboe was well known for her dedication to the St. Olaf community and for showing interest in every student with whom she came in contact. St. Olaf faculty and staff nominate members of the faculty for the award. Members of the Student Life staff select the recipient from the nominations.
