Alumna returns home to White Earth Reservation
October 15, 2007
Rachel Kupcho '99 is featured in a Star Tribune story about how the White Earth reservation recently welcomed back some of the thousands of Indian children adopted off reservations under a decades-long federal policy that encouraged their placement in non-Indian homes. The all-day healing ceremony was perhaps the first of its type in the nation.
"Just to literally be on this land has been incredibly powerful," Kupcho told the paper. "When I drove up and saw the sign, I just started crying. I've always believed my relatives are from here, so it's an emotional time, but a good time."
