Many-handed 'Monster' concert Thursday

St. Olaf College invites the college community and the public to a Halloween-themed piano recital that will feature eight costumed pianists playing four pianos in a performance on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 11:30 a.m. in Urness Recital Hall in Christiansen Hall of Music. Admission is free.

The eight pianists, all members of the St. Olaf music faculty, are Kathryn Ananda-Owens, Julia Elkina, Andrew Hisey, John Jensen, Kent McWilliams, Nicola Melville, Nancy Paddleford and Lori Ronning Folland. Catherine Rodland will play harpsichord, and music faculty colleague John Ferguson will conduct the ensemble.

The performance will feature Aram Khachaturian's popular Sabre Dance and Tchaikovsky's Marche Slave. Rodland will play harpsichord on a Bach concerto arranged by McWilliams, and the concert will conclude with Schubert's Marche Militaire and Fantasy on Themes from Bizet's Carmen by Mack Wilberg.
