Ryan wins grant for film
August 29, 2007
A $9,000 grant from the Jerome Foundation has been awarded to St. Olaf Assistant Professor of Art and Art History Dave Ryan to support his experimental animated film, The Hungering Deep, which, according to Ryan, "explores the foundations of self in the murky mixture of memory, subconscious realms of longing and the physical realms of neutral signals." The Jerome Foundation makes grants available to help support and foster new artistic works by emerging Minnesota and New York City artists. Seven grants were awarded this year.
Ryan's video works have been recognized by a number of important venues, including The Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Video Festival and the Locarno Video Art festival in Switzerland. He also has been honored with numerous fellowship awards, including a 2003 Bush Foundation Artist Fellowship and a Cal Arts Alpert/MacDowell Fellowship Award.
