June 7, 2007

St. Olaf Campus, June 7-9

The remarkable growth of global literatures in English has prompted the St. Olaf Department of English to host a pioneering conference that will explore the challenge, the alternatives and the opportunities offered by literatures in English, and to do so from multiple perspectives.

Featured speakers include: Gaurav Desai, Tulane University; Kendel Hippolyte, poet from Saint Lucia; and Chitra Divakaruni, an Indian-born, American domiciled writer. Moderated sessions will include presentations by faculty from institutions throughout the country.

Authors and conference presenters will read from their work in two events. On Thursday, June 7, 7:30 p.m., Kendel Hippolyte, author most recently of Night Vision, will read from his work. And on Friday, June 8, 7:30 p.m., Chitra Divakaruni, author of Arranged Marriage, Mistress of Spices and Queen of Dreams, will read from her latest work.

Both readings will take place in Christiansen Hall of Music and are free and open to the public.
