Biofuels basics

Carole Engblom
January 18, 2007

With the effects of global warming evident all around us, exploring alternative energy sources is more urgent than ever before. Dr. Jason Hill, a faculty member in the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota, studies corn and grass-based ethanol and soy biodiesel production. He has coauthored recent papers published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and in Science magazine. Tonight, at 7 p.m. in Science Center 282, Hill will discuss "Biofuels Basics: Energetics, Expectations, Environment and Economics." The lecture, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the student-led St. Olaf Environmental Coalition, the St. Olaf Department of Environmental Studies, the Northfield League of Women Voters of Northfield and the Cannon River Watershed Partnership.
