The online Worldwatch Institute recently published "Campus Greening: St. Olaf College," an article by Jim Farrell, professor of history and director of the American studies program at St. Olaf. In the article Farrell discusses the college's commitment to "economic and ecological sustainability," and touches on topics such as St. Olaf's attempt to minimize food waste, the college's STOGROW organic garden and the college's Sustainability Task Force.

The task force has completed a 40-page document that includes a set of "Sustainability Principles" for future work. Some of these principles include "expanding the teaching of environmental literacy," "relying increasingly on sustainable energy flows," and "eating food that nourishes farmers and the land." Farrell is a member of the Sustainability Task Force along with other faculty members, students and staff.
