Hofrenning weighs in on lack of gubernatorial debate

September 14, 2006

With the upcoming debate among remaining contenders in Minnesota's race for governor on the horizon, St. Olaf Associate Professor of Political Science Dan Hofrenning notes a lack of candid dialogue in politics. Leading up to this week's primaries, more scheduled gubernatorial debates have been canceled than actually took place.

"Politics these days is a kind of scripted affair, primarily via advertising," Hofrenning says in the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "There aren't many unmediated moments. Debates are one."
