Enrollment VP comments on Minnesota ACT scores

By Tom Vogel
August 16, 2006

Michael Kyle, St. Olaf's vice president and dean of enrollment, recently was quoted in the Star Tribune regarding Minnesotan students' stellar performances on the ACT college-entrance exam. According to 2006 figures, Minnesota students led the nation with an average score of 22.3 out of a maximum 36.

Kyle said that while an ACT score is not the only predictor of a student's abilities, "it's still a relatively reliable one of the potential for academic success." Last year, St. Olaf welcomed a first-year student with a perfect ACT score of 36 and is doing so again in this year's incoming first-year class.

This year's incoming class, the Class of 2010, has an average ACT score of 28 -- a rise of one point over last year.
