St. Olaf holds its place in U.S. News rankings
August 21, 2006
St. Olaf College placed 55th overall in U.S. News & World Report magazine's 2006 annual rankings of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation, which were announced today. The college's ranking is the same as in 2005, which was seven places higher than the previous year.
With 68 percent of St. Olaf students studying abroad -- more than any other college in Minnesota -- St. Olaf was cited for its outstanding study abroad program.
"We're pleased to be recognized by the U.S. News rankings as one of America's best liberal arts colleges," says St. Olaf President David R. Anderson '74, who adds that the best place for prospective students and their parents to acquire more direct information about the college is a visit to campus.
St. Olaf is the third-highest ranked liberal arts college in Minnesota, behind Carleton and Macalester, and the second-highest ranked of the 28 colleges of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, behind Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania.
St. Olaf also was featured recently in the influential guide Colleges That Change Lives. It was the only Minnesota college and the only ELCA college to be recognized in the book, which positions itself as a resource for students who want to "find themselves, raise their aspirations and be empowered."
