Tough work for parents

A commentary piece that appeared recently in the Kansas City Star looks at how new St. Olaf parent Patty Smith, mother of Bobby Smith '10, is dealing with her son's approaching departure to college. "He is a great kid, we are friends, and I really enjoy his company," says Patty. "I think the thing that makes this move easier is the joy in watching him. His excitement has made me excited."

But along with Patty's enthusiasm comes sadness in saying goodbye to "her baby." (Free online registration may be required to view the article.)
