Sauve recognized in two poetry contests

St. Olaf College Associate Archivist Jeff Sauve has been selected as a finalist in two recent poetry contests. Sauve's poem "Wading in the Zumbro" was recognized in the Friends of the Red Wing Public Library Poetry Celebration and in a regional poetry contest sponsored by the Crossings Art Center in Zumbrota, Minn.

Sauve says his poem developed out of a contest offering a trip to the Galapagos Islands in a National Geographic magazine.

"The contest was for a project with an environmental theme, so my 10-year-old son, Holden, and I went to explore the Zumbro River," Sauve says, noting the debris, rocks and minerals that collect on the river's bed.

"Looking at all of the things Holden collected, I asked myself, 'what can I contribute creatively to this project?'" says Suave. "The poem 'Wading in the Zumbro' came from that."
