Elizabeth Oakley Hutchins, a former reference and instructional librarian at St. Olaf, has been chosen to receive the 2006 Distinguished Education and Behavioral Sciences Librarian Award from the Association of College and Research Libraries. The $1,000 award will be presented during the American Library Association Annual Conference in New Orleans in June.

"Elizabeth had a large influence on the teaching of information literacy in the psychology department at St. Olaf, influence that will shape our teaching and curriculum for years to come," says St. Olaf Professor of Psychology Bonnie Sherman. Hutchins made significant contributions across campus, and is the only non-social worker to have received the college's Genesis Award for Creative Social Work Leadership in the Global Community.

"Ms. Hutchins forged the way in faculty collaboration with librarians," adds Nancy P. O'Brien, chair of the award committee. "Her work in private and public schools in the U.S. and overseas as well as her more recent work in academic libraries demonstrate commitment to the education of students at all levels."
