St. Olaf art apprentice show opens
January 11, 2006
The Flaten Art Museum at St. Olaf College presents the show "?Dugong?" through Jan. 18. The exhibit highlights the work of the four St. Olaf Art Department's fifth-year apprentices: printmaker Max Clark, sculptor Lewis Colburn, ceramist Nick Kosack and sculptor Andy Webber. Admission is free.

| Colburn's current work began with a structure that bears some resemblance to an outhouse. "I began photographing myself while making rapid drawings... that will be shown alongside the structure." |
Each year the St. Olaf Department of Art and Art History retains four promising art majors who remain an additional fifth year at the college. The apprentices get studio space to prepare for two shows throughout the year. In addition, they assist with academic programs, including evening art critique sessions with current students. The second apprentice show will take place in May at the Northfield Arts Guild and will include the work of Carleton College art interns.
The Flaten Art Museum is located in the Dittmann Center on the St. Olaf campus. Visitor parking is available in the adjacent lot. The museum is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
