Students help local food shelf
November 16, 2005
As part of this year's hunger awareness week (Nov. 14-18), the St. Olaf Social Work Club sponsored a student "cafe fast" Nov. 16. The event entailed students choosing to forego Wednesday's lunch and instead donate the money for that meal to the Northfield Food Shelf. More than 400 students participated in the event, which translated into nearly $1,000 for the food shelf.
Related events during the week include a canned food drive (which as of Wednesday has collected more than 250 items), a "sleep-out" on Northfield?s Bridge Square and a presentation by an alumna who has worked with victims of Hurricane Katrina.
