Phi Beta Kappa inducts 14 new St. Olaf students
November 30, 2005
St. Olaf College initiated a new group of students into Phi Beta Kappa at the chapter's fall meeting in November. The inducted students (all seniors) are: Bjorg Edberg (Storslett, Norway), Sarah Gilles (Wausau, Wis.), Christian Huebner (Lincoln, Neb.), Noreen Johnson (Sunfish Lake, Minn.), Rose Keimig (Princeton, Minn.), Kaia Knutson (Fargo, N.D.), Michelle LaBerge (Shoreview, Minn.), Tracee Mergen (Richmond, Minn.), Cristina Narvaez (Northfield, Minn.), John Nichol (Northfield, Minn.), Larisa Nordstrom (Des Moines, Iowa), Natalie Rigelman (Frontenac, Minn.) and Lisa Schaus (Zionsville, Ind.). Katie Warwick (Faribault, Minn.), who is currently in Asia, will be initiated in the spring.
"These students are elected on the basis of their achievements in their junior year only, so each of them is particularly outstanding and accomplished," says Associate Professor of Social Work Naurine Lennox '64, president of Phi Beta Kappa at St. Olaf.
Phi Beta Kappa was founded in 1776 and is the oldest and most highly regarded academic honor society in the United States. St. Olaf's chapter, the Delta of Minnesota, was granted a charter in 1949. There are currently 262 American colleges and universities with chapters of Phi Beta Kappa.
