"Harding Puls is to be congratulated for a stunning show, one of beauty and depth, one that provokes thought and brings smiles, one that stimulates the mind and soul," says Jill Ewald, director of the museum. The exhibit explores art, culture and identity based on the artists' experiences living along the Hardanger fjord on the eastern coast of Norway. It includes textiles, photographs, paintings, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.

The concert by Botnen and Helleland, a tenor, included works by Schubert, Brahms, Tveitt and Grieg. Botnen is a founder of Norway's annual Hardingtonar Festival and Helleland is a member of the soloist ensemble at the Norwegian Opera in Oslo.

Fjord Born is part of the yearlong celebration of Norway at. St. Olaf to commemorate the country's centennial. A conference, "Norway and the U.S 1905-2005: A Friendship and its Future," will run parallel to the exhibition Sept. 23-24 (for more on the conference visit www.stolaf.edu/services and select "conferences and camps," or call 646-3031).

The Flaten Art Museum is located in the Dittmann Center on the St. Olaf campus. Visitor parking is available in the adjacent lot. The museum is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free (the museum will be closed Oct. 15 to 18).
