The National Science Foundation has awarded a two-year, $88,994 grant to Jeff Schwinefus and Greg Muth, both assistant professors of chemistry at St Olaf. The two call their project "Employing Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Laser-Light Scanning for a Thermodynamic-Rich Undergraduate Chemistry Curriculum." The grant will be used to emphasize thermodynamic principles in laboratory work for junior- and senior-level students. It also will be used for interdisciplinary science labs in the areas of biology and chemistry, according to student interests.
