Stop by the St. Olaf Bookstore today for author readings

On Saturday, May 28, five authors will present their work at the St. Olaf Bookstore. "All of these authors have a close connection with St. Olaf; they're either graduates of former staff members," Bookstore Director David Schlosser explained.

Commencement goers are invited to stop by the bookstore to enjoy literary accounts of World War II adventure, small town heritage, and Ole football or the fictional stylings of a critically acclaimed mystery writer.

The first will be Neil Palmer Kittlesen '54 and the author of the book, Growing up in Frost: Memories from Small Town America, a prose ode to his childhood experiences in the 1930s and '40s. He will be in the bookstore from 10 to 11 a.m.

Later that day former Ole football coach Tom Porter '51 and Bob Phelps, who co-authored the book, The Greatest Game: Football at St. Olaf College 1893-2003, will present their work from 2 to 3 p.m.

"This book just came out this fall, and it's the first comprehensive history of football at St. Olaf," says Schlosser. "We're very excited to be part of the promotion of this book; this is the first general book signing, the first big promotional push."

Bill Cupp, a former member of the St. Olaf faculty, wrote Wartime Journey: Bail-Out Over Belgium WWII, a recollection of his nerve wracking ordeal as a U.S. soldier caught behind enemy lines. Cupp will be at the Bookstore from 3 to 4 p.m.

The final presenter will be author Erin Hart '80, a well known mystery writer. She will promote her new book, Lake of Sorrows from 4 to 5 p.m.

"Her book just came out this month and has been getting some national attention," says Schlosser, adding that "She was added at the last minute, we weren't sure she was going to be available."
