TRiO students to visit campus this spring
April 3, 2005
More than 400 St. Olaf TRiO mentees will be on campus visiting their St. Olaf mentors this spring. The majority of the TRiO participants are first generation, college bound students attending Minneapolis and St. Paul schools.
200 St. Olaf College students volunteer as mentors, college role models, and writing coaches for 400 junior and senior high participants in St. Olaf's TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program.
These programs include Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, Student Support Services and Gear Up. Since 1989, the Education Department at St. Olaf has sponsored the TriO programs which help students overcome class, social, academic and cultural barriers to obtaining higher education.
The day-long visit will give the TRiO students the chance to spend the day with their St. Olaf mentors for the last time this year.
