Entenmann, Pomponio receive ASIANetwork grants

St. Olaf Professor of History Robert Entenmann and Associate Professor of Economics Xun Pomponio have both received grants from the ASIANetwork Freeman Student-Faculty Fellowship Program.
Entenmann will travel to Japan with four St. Olaf students this summer to research Kakure Kirishitan (Hidden Christians). They plan to examine how Kakure Kirishitan were able to practice their religion secretly and pass their traditions from generation to generation, and study the fate of modern-day Kakure Kirishitan. Pomponio will travel to Western China with four St. Olaf students this summer to conduct research on sustainable development in western China, specifically the history of Chinese water conservancy policies and irrigation maintenance.
