Singer, songwriter Carrie Newcomer to speak at St. Olaf

Carrie Newcomer, award-winning singer and songwriter from Bloomington, Indiana, will be the special guest speaker on Friday, Feb. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Christiansen Hall of Music, room 105. Her speech, "Living your calling through music," sponsored by the Lilly Endowment Program, is free and open to the public. In addition, music for reflection will be offered by Newcomer during the Feb. 11, 10:10 a.m. chapel service.
Newcomer has performed at Carnegie Hall, toured Europe with Alison Krauss and Union Station and raised funds for charities such as Habitat for Humanity and Literacy Volunteers of America. This year she was named the Bloomington, Indiana "Woman of the Year" for her activism and contributions to her community. Her new CD, "Betty's Diner: The Best of Carrie Newcomer," is her ninth album of original music.
