WAUKESHA, WI (9/7/02) -- Brian Senske (Jr., Burnsville, Minn) threw four touchdown passes while completing 13 of 15 for 212 yards to lead St. Olaf to a season-opening 57-14 road win over Carroll College (Wis.) in a nonconference football game Saturday afternoon at Van Male Field in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Matt Johnson (Jr., Richfield, Minn) rushed for 51 yards on 8 carries, leading St. Olaf to its biggest win since a 62-0 win over Macalester College in 1991.

It was the season-opener for both teams. St. Olaf got off to an early start when Owen Buckmaster (Sr., Lansing, IA) tackled Carroll College running back Rob Brester in the endzone for a safety. The Oles led 9-0 at the end of the first quarter, then scored 22 unanswered points to end the first half 31-0. After half time, St. Olaf came out and scored another quick 14 points for a 45-0 lead just five minutes into the third quarter. Carroll College scored late in the third quarter to get on the board. The Oles continued to drive to end the game 57-14 and give first year head coach, Chris Meidt his first win as a head coach.

Leading the way for special teams was Nate Johnson (So., Menomonie, Wisc) who had 2 punts inside the five yard line and also booted two kickoffs into the end zone. Senske was honored as the MIAC Offensive player of the week for September 9, 2002.

Next up for the Oles is the cross town rival game against Carleton College on Saturday (9/14) at Carleton at 1:00 p.m. This is the first time the cross town game has started the MIAC season for both teams.
