Hispanic Heritage Month all-day celebration occurs Sept. 19

September 19, 2002

Pastor Anthony Machado of El Milagro Church in Minneapolis will be speaking during Communitiy Time in Boe Chapel from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., beginning an all-day series of events to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15). From 12-1:30p.m., Mariachi Son del Sur will provide lunchtime entertainment in Stav Hall and there will be a pinata-breaking at 6 p.m. in Buntrock's south plaza (rain site: the Crossroads). The day concludes with a screening of the 1982 Academy Award-winning film Missing, directed by Costa-Gavras and starring Jack Lemmon and Sissy Spacek, at 7 p.m. in Viking Theater. Missing questions the U.S. policy toward Latin America with its emphasis on "internal security" and its alignment with fascist regimes that protect American business interests. This screening is sponsored by Hispanic Studies.
