St. Olaf student Christian Huebner '06, Lincoln, Neb., is the recipient of this year's Great Conversation Student of the Year award. The award, announced at a March 31 banquet, is a scholarship established by Lowell '52 and Barbara '54 Johnson. Lowell, St. Olaf professor emeritus of English, is a past director of the Great Conversation program. The current director is faculty member Edmund Santurri. Huebner's Great Conversation faculty team includes Jolene Barjasteh, Steve Reece and Douglas Schuurman.

"I was surprised and gratified to be selected," said Huebner. "But the sweetest moments of the evening really came in the time we all spent sharing a meal in relaxed and authentic conversation with a group of students and professors whom we've come to know and appreciate so well." Huebner added that the Great Conversation program has shown him how learning and friendship naturally complement each other.
