Oles earn top honors in singing competition

Three St. Olaf College students earned top honors at the annual Minnesota National Association of Teachers of Singing competition.

Anna Christofaro '11 won first place in the division for college women age 18. Emily Way '09 won first place in the division for college women age 20. And Paul Johnson '09 won third place in the division for upper class men ages 20 and 21.

The competition draws students from colleges and universities across the state to St. John's University in Collegeville, Minn. The Oles who competed in the intense two-day competition are under the direction of St. Olaf voice instructor Mark Calkins.

The National Association of Teachers of Singing is an organization that aims to encourage the highest standards of singing through excellence in teaching and the promotion of vocal education. It was founded in 1944 and has more than 6,500 members worldwide. The organization offers a variety of lifelong learning experiences to its members and their students.
