The Norwegian Researchers and Teachers Association of North America has announced that St. Olaf student Alice Deden '09 has won their essay contest with her entry, "A Changing Norway, a Changing World." The contest invited students to write about such topics as Norway's activities in research and industry, Polar exploration and environmental projects. It was created for North American students in conjunction with the International Polar Year, an extensive scientific program that focuses on the Arctic and Antarctica (read "Fire and Ice," a recent St. Olaf Magazine article on the subject).
