Greetings from the Hill!

It's only a little more than two weeks into second semester and the campus is abuzz with activity. In addition to shivering their way to classes, students have been investing their time in the many aspects of college life: a soul food dinner for Black History Month, successful MIAC swimming from the Ole men and women, home concerts of the St. Olaf Orchestra and St. Olaf Choir, planning meetings for Ole Spring Relief and Habitat for Humanity Spring Break trips, and the list goes on.

These students, completely immersed in their coursework, jobs and friends (and maybe a little Facebook, too), impressively find time to serve the communities around them through events, programs, and entertainment that further the mission of our college.

But it's obvious that stellar performances and humble service don't end on graduation day.

As you will read below, St. Olaf is pleased to announce the 2008 recipients of the annual Alumni Awards. These seven Ole men and women have dedicated their lives to professional advancement and service to their communities, churches and St. Olaf. Not only have they demonstrated excellence in their work, but they have distinguished themselves through it.

From improving how world languages are taught in schools across the nation to creating works of art that transcend familiar boundaries to overseeing one of the most impressive library collections in the world, these alumni have carried on the ideals of our college across the world.

The Alumni & Parent Relations Office invites you to join the college in honoring these alumni during this year's Celebration and Reunion Weekend May 23-25. Under a large canopied tent on Mellby Lawn, with music and food and friends, the St. Olaf community will gather as one, join our hands together in applause, and say thank you to these award winners.

If you know of an Ole in your community who deserves the recognition of a St. Olaf Alumni Award, please consider taking a few minutes to complete an application.

Fram! Fram! St. Olaf!
