His performance will begin at 8 p.m. in the Lion's Pause in Buntrock Commons. The Student Activities Committee is sponsoring the event. Admission is free for St. Olaf and Carleton College students and is $5 for the public.

Gemineye, who is also a writer and poet, uses spoken word art as an avenue to express personal feelings about today's issues and topics that include life, love and urban events. He made his way into the poetry scene in 2001 at the Euphoria Cafe in Newark, N.J., at an event hosted by Flowmentalz of the Def Poetry series.

Emily Holm '08, a member of the Student Activities Committee, said she invited Gemineye to campus because she was impressed with his performance at the 2005 National Association for Campus Activities National Conference.

"I thought that the St. Olaf student population would really enjoy his work as well," Holm says.

Early in his career, Gemineye was a crowd favorite in nearly every venue he entered, and he has since sought to hone his skills through poetry competitions. In 2002 he was a finalist at both the world renowned Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York and at Serengeti Plains in New Jersey. He earned the title of Grand Slam Champion in the New Jersey Slam Circuit in both 2002 and 2003.

Gemineye has toured the nation to perform for high school and college students. His debut CD Eye've Arrived has been followed by a handful of compilation CDs.
