Hughes taken in 10th round by Rockies

Benjamin Hughes '12 was taken in the 10th round by the Colorado Rockies Tuesday in the Major League Baseball draft, becoming the highest pick in school history and the third St. Olaf player since 2003 to be taken.

Hughes, the MIAC's pitcher of the year this spring, compiled a 7–1 record with a 2.50 ERA in 10 appearances this season for St. Olaf. He struck out 83 against a mere 19 walks in 57 2/3 innings of work. He had three complete games, including two shutouts, and amassed at least 10 strikeouts in five of his 10 appearances.
