November 3, 2011

The Reverend Mark Hanson, the presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is visiting St. Olaf College November 3 and 4.

During his time on campus, he will visit with St. Olaf students, faculty, and staff, and will meet with the Pastoral Call Committee that is leading efforts to find a new college pastor. Hanson will also participate in Founders Day activities, including speaking at Friday's chapel service, an event that will be streamed live and archived online. He will conclude his visit to campus by having lunch with students Friday in Stav Dining Hall.

Hanson has served as presiding bishop of the ELCA since 2001. Before being elected presiding bishop, he had served as bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod and had been a pastor at three Minnesota congregations. He also served as president of the Lutheran World Federation from 2003 to 2010.
