St. Olaf President David R. Anderson '74 (right) and Carleton President Steven Poskanzer are leading efforts to increase collaboration between the two colleges.

Having two well-respected liberal arts colleges in the same town is an opportunity for collaboration "too good to pass up," St. Olaf College President David R. Anderson '74 and Carleton College President Steven Poskanzer tell the Chronicle of Higher Education in a story that highlights how the schools are working together to contain costs.

The story, titled "Tough Times Push More Small Colleges to Join Forces," describes how St. Olaf and Carleton are looking at a host of partnerships ranging from merging business operations to collaborating on technology contracts.

The colleges are using a $50,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to explore the opportunities and challenges related to expanded collaboration.
