St. Olaf Men's Soccer Drops To Luther College
SEPTEMBER 29, 2000 — On Thursday, September 28 the St. Olaf men?s soccer team traveled to Luther College. The game was deadlocked until the 26th minute when Luther scored on a far post cross and header.

St. Olaf College to host Oct. 9 debate among four local Legislative candidates
SEPTEMBER 29, 2000 — Four local candidates for the Minnesota Legislature will meet in a student-sponsored debate at St. Olaf College on Monday, Oct. 9. The St. Olaf student Political Awareness Committee is sponsoring the forum.

SEPTEMBER 28, 2000 — St. Olaf College defeated a hard-charging Augsburg team 3-2 in women's volleyball. What looked like an easy three game win after the first 15-5 victory, took fives games for an eventual Ole win.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 — Chris Nickel (Sr., Fort Collins, Co.) was selected MIAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Week for his performance in the Oles? 28-18 win over Hamline University.

St. Olaf Womens Soccer Victorious over Saint Catherines
SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 — The St. Olaf Women?s soccer team defeated visiting Saint Catherine?s on Monday, September 25 by a score of 3-2. This win brings the Oles overall record to 5-3-1.

St. Olaf Football Wins at Hamline
SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 — St. Olaf College defeated Hamline University 28-18 in MIAC action in St. Paul on September 22. The Oles amassed 508 yards of total offense in a game where they never trailed, boosting their overall record to 2-1.

SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 — In the latest Central Region ranking, the St. Olaf volleyball team was second behind Central College of Iowa.

St. Olaf Women's Golf Takes Fifth at Luther Invitational
SEPTEMBER 26, 2000 — The St. Olaf Women's golf team faced bitter cold weather again as they competed this past weekend at the Luther Invitational in Decorah, Iowa. The Oles turned in a fine team score of 362 to finish 5th out of 17 teams participating, finishing behind four nationally ranked teams.

SEPTEMBER 25, 2000 — The St. Olaf Men's Cross Country team placed 13th at the Roy Griak Invitational. The Oles scored 368 points and were the second MIAC team to finish.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2000 — The St. Olaf women's volleyball team grabbed another victory last night in MIAC action defeating Gustavus Adolphus College 15-6, 15-10, 15-4. The win puts the Oles at 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the MIAC.

SEPTEMBER 21, 2000 — ? Dr. Donald H. Nelson of Rochester, Minn., has created a new environmental endowment at St. Olaf College. The endowment will maintain natural habitats on college-owned land, support sustainable agriculture, and support courses, faculty and student research and other biology and environmental science activities.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 — The St. Olaf Women?s soccer team lost a well-fought game against Gustavus Adolphus 3-1, on Tuesday, September 19 at the Melby Bowl. Gustavus? offense was solid, but the Oles played tough defense while trying to contain the Gusties.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 — In the first Central Region ranking of the season, the St. Olaf volleyball team was ranked number two behind Central College. The Oles are 10-2 on the season and 1-0 in MIAC action.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2000 — The St. Olaf women's cross country team was ranked number one in the first Central Region ranking of the season and fifth in the nation in the latest Division III poll.

St. Olaf Women's Soccer Completes Successful Road Trip
SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — The St. Olaf women's soccer team came away with two more wins to add to their record this weekend against Lawrence and Marion. The Oles were visitors at Lawrence on Saturday and Marian on Sunday. In the game versus Lawrence the teams played 75 minutes before the first and only St. Olaf goal. In the second game, the Oles came out strong against Marian, controlling possession and the flow of the game.

St. Olaf Volleyball Goes 2-1 At Wheaton Invitational
SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — The St. Olaf women?s volleyball team made a long trip out to Illinois for the Blue Classic at Wheaton College. The Oles finished 2-1, placing third overall. The teams participating were Elmhurst College (1st), Wheaton College (2nd), St. Olaf College (3rd), Converse College (4th), Messiah College (5th), and Manchester College (6th).

St. Olaf Men's Golf At St. John's Invitational
SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — The Ole men's golf team competed at the St. John's Invitational over the weekend and finished in eighth place with a team score of 693. The Oles shot a 348 the first day at Wapicada Golf Course and came back with a 345 on the second day of play at Pebble Creek Golf Course.

St. Olaf Drops MIAC Football Opener to St. John's
SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — St. John?s (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) showed why they were ranked eighth in the AFCA D-III College Football Poll by beating St. Olaf (1-1. 0-1) 42-6. The Johnnies took control of the game quickly with five first half touchdowns, including an 85 yard punt return by Blake Elliot.

Ole Golfers Take Second At Winona Invitational
SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — The St. Olaf Woman's golf team had a fine showing at the Winona Invitational on Sunday, September 17, scoring a team total of 390. The tournament was held at Cedar Valley golf course, a par 73 playing at a total of 5889 yards.

SEPTEMBER 19, 2000 — The St. Olaf men?s cross-country team ran to a strong fourth-place finish September 16 at the Les Duke Invitational, hosted by Grinnell College. The Ole harriers were bested by central region foes Wartburg and Grinnell, as well as traditional power Augustana. Peder Arneson (FY, Montevideo, Minn.) led the balanced Ole attack, taking twelfth among 199 finishers.

The 125-year-old institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), nationally recognized for its quality liberal arts curriculum and international studies programs, selected Thomforde following an extensive national search. He succeeds President Mark U. Edwards, Jr., who leaves his post October 1 after serving St. Olaf for six years.
