St. Olaf College GIS

The map layers at this site were assembled by the Fall, 2000 GIS and Remote Sensing Class at St. Olaf College as a part of their Final Project and represents their first major experience with GIS and Arcview. To the extent possible the data have been checked for spatial accuracy (see Metadata) but the data layers and this site should be seen as a work in progress.

Many of the layers available for download are Arcview 3.2 Shapefiles and you will only be able to view these layers if you have Arcview or download a free, easy to use program from ESRI called ArcExplorer. Please note that ArcExplorer will run only on PCs. Other files are in a geoTiff format and may be more accessible. Coordinates and datum are in the NAD83, UTM Zone 15 system.
