After growing up in Wyoming, Roy attended undergrad at Carleton College, our friendly neighbor institution. Interested in dissecting American populist movements and producing electronic music, he graduated with a degree in Political Science in 2018. While in school, Roy loved to grab bagels and coffee in downtown Northfield, and would often bike the county roads surrounding the picturesque town.

After graduating, Roy spent two years in Manhattan earning his master’s degree in Higher and Postsecondary Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. He also served as a Residence Hall Director, managing a Columbia residence hall that served 400 sophomore and junior engineering students.

Roy’s desire to work in higher education stemmed from his experience at a small liberal arts school. While mostly successful in classes, he was supported through the ups and downs of the college experience by faculty, staff, and students that made up a small and devoted community. He knew he wanted to return to Northfield in order to support students who wished to have a similar college experience.

Roy is happy to join the team as a new Ole, and hopes to spend a lot of time in the greenhouse on top of Regents Hall, meeting with students excited to learn more about St. Olaf and biking on campus to work on his hill climbs.
