Hello!
I am currently serving as visiting instructor in the Math, Statistics, and Computer Sciences department. The courses I teach are SDS 164: Data Science 1 and SDS 172: Statistics 1. I will also be teaching a January Term course, SDS 282: Special Topics in Statistics, focusing on survey design and analysis.
My academic journey began at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities where I completed my B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience in 2017. Shortly after I began my M.A. in Educational Psychology concentrating in quantitative methods in education, which I completed in 2020. Even more shortly after I began my Ph.D in Educational Psychology, again, focusing on quantitative methods in education, which I anticipate to finish Fall 2025!
Broadly, my research interests involve the applicability and functionality of generalized linear and non-linear mixed effects models, use of quantitative evidence to support test score interpretation and use, measuring social and emotional competencies, and culturally responsive assessment and methodologies. I hope to continue to foster and explore my curiosity in these topics.
Some background and general facts about myself include that I was born and raised in the Chicagoland area. My parents immigrated from Mexico and I grew up speaking Spanish, so I have always had a strong connection with my heritage. Outside of academia I enjoy playing a variety of musical instruments, running, fly fishing, and reading comic books. I also have two cats, Chaacmol and Santa Maria Pinquito.
