What I love about teaching is the opportunity to share my commitment to the liberal arts with students. A quotation I found from author and journalist Lewis Lapham sums up my goal: to "awaken the student to the light in his or her own mind."

My research specialties include 18th century French literature (especially Jean-Jacques Rousseau, women's autobiography, and the literature of the French Revolution, particularly Marie-Jeanne Roland), and franco-manitoban literature, especially Gabrielle Roy.

When I am not at St. Olaf I love keeping up with family and friends, reading, gardening, running, and knitting (not always in that order). I am also fond of chocolate and ice cream.
