Hi! My name is Emma DeVries (she/they) and I am an intern therapist at St. Olaf this year while I pursue my Masters of Social Work at the University of Minnesota. Before coming to social work, I studied human geography at UMN (PhD candidacy, 2022), theological studies at Duke University (M.T.S. 2015), and environmental studies, geography, and spanish at Calvin College (B.A. 2012). In addition to my work in higher education, I have worked as a community organizer on climate change and immigration issues. I remain an organizer at heart and believe deeply in the importance of individual healing for collective healing and social change.

As a therapist, I enjoy supporting students through everyday stressors, mental health challenges, and identity concerns to find greater ease and closer alignment with the life they want to live. I bring warmth, empathy, and humor to therapy and work from an affirming and strengths-based approach, where we can learn with and from one another. I have special interests in working with neurodivergent students, the LGBTQIA+ community, people navigating chronic illness, religious trauma, and spiritual transitions. In my free time, I can most likely be found by Minneapolis’ chain of lakes (bird-watching, reading Mary Oliver poems, walking my dog - or all three); out seeing live music, or watching a mystery series with my cat in my lap.
