Kirk Martinson began his career using his Mechanical Engineering and Communications degrees to interpret technical documents and images for marketing materials. After pivoting to language, he taught German and was the resident departmental tech genius for two decades, including here at St. Olaf. Since returning to St. Olaf in 2019, he has worked on improving Moodle and integrating technology that enhances and supports teaching and learning, including addressing the impact artificial intelligence is having on campus. He earned an M.A. in German from the University of Texas at Austin, and his Ph.D. in German and Second Language Acquisition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
