Dr. Magaly Ortiz Arend is a proud TRIO/SSS and TRIO McNair alumna. She previously worked with TRIO/SSS and TRIO McNair students at Augsburg University, providing comprehensive support as an academic advisor as well as an instructor. In 2024 she earned her PhD in Hispanic and Lusophone Literatures and Cultures from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, specializing in the intersection of medieval and early modern Iberian cultural practices and identity formation. Dr. Ortiz Arend’s research draws on interdisciplinary theories from philosophy, history, sociology, psychology, and art. She is thrilled to work with St. Olaf students and support them on their academic journeys.

Outside of academia, Magaly is devoted to her two beloved puggles (18 and 4 years old) and enjoys exploring nature through walks, practicing crocheting, and spending time with family.
