My primary interests unite literature, philosophy, and religion: the Russian novel (especially Dostoevsky) and the Existentialist tradition (especially Kierkegaard). My current book project interprets Dostoevsky's fiction in light of Kierkegaard's concepts. Before coming to St. Olaf, I received my PhD from Princeton.
I love to teach Russian language in an immersive, communicative way; to unfold and discuss the big ideas and little details of great literature; and to get to know my students in and outside of class.
I live in Northfield with my wife and four kids.
