My primary interests unite literature, philosophy, and religion: the Russian novel (especially Dostoevsky) and the Existentialist tradition (especially Kierkegaard). My current book project interprets Dostoevsky's fiction in light of Kierkegaard's concepts. Before coming to St. Olaf, I received my PhD from Princeton.

I enjoy teaching Russian language in a communicative way, unfolding and discussing the big ideas and little details of great literature, and getting to know my students in and outside of class.

I live in Northfield with my wife and four kids.
