Dr. Antar Salim has a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan. After completing his degree, he worked for Lincoln Electric as a technical sales representative. During his career with Lincoln, he completed his MBA from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville (SIUE). With a penchant for teaching, he joined Dakota County Technical College (DCTC) as an Adjunct professor and customized sales representative. After several years with DCTC, Dr. Salim served as an instructor for Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Metro State University, Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) and Rasmussen College. After receiving his DBA from Argosy University (2013) with a research interest in the intersection between EI and Leadership success, Antar joined the staff at Saint Mary’s University in a full-time capacity as an Associate faculty member. More recently, he was promoted to full professor. In 2025, he received an amazing opportunity to serve as visiting professor at St. Olaf Collete. For the past five years, Dr. Salim has primarily taught economics, finance, statistics, and ethics. As Dr. Salim’s academic interests evolve, he now includes Character Education, specifically, virtue ethics, in his various courses.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in my dissertation work. At the time, my research interest centered around the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and teacher effectiveness. Through that work, I was able to glean insight into the substrate of effective teaching, particularly at the university level. From my work I learned that in order to promote effective learning, teachers should: a) engage the student, b) be cognizant of various learning styles, c) offer continuous feedback and d) foster learning communities underpin effective instruction.
On a personal note, I'm married and I have three daughters. My oldest is entering her 2nd year of college. I have a five and three-year-old that has endless amounts of energy. I have two dogs that have a commensurate amount of energy. I enjoy reading, working out and running.
