John Saurer earned his BA at Hope College (sculpture/drawing) and his MFA at Colorado State University (sculpture). His many exhibitions include shows in Minnesota, Michigan, New York, Georgia, Ohio, North Dakota, Utah, Colorado, Iowa and, Rosario, Argentina.  His work consistently involves sculpture, printmaking and drawing and he has been teaching each of these media at St. Olaf College since 1995, where he is currently chair of the Department of Art and Art History.

SteamlinerSaurer’s awards and honors include Minnesota State Arts Board Grants, Faculty Development Grants, a Nygaard Foundation Grant, the Egon Schiele Prize, and numerous cash awards.  He has served as a member of the Minnesota State Arts Board, the MAEP Artist Panel at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Gallery Committee at the Northfield Arts Guild, and juror for numerous exhbitions. His commissions include: The Martha Miller Center for Global Communication (Hope College), The Behavioral Sciences Building (Colorado State University), Gesthemane Lutheran Church (Hopkins, Minnesota) and the Welcome mural at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
