Tarshia Stanley is the college’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for all faculty, staff, and programming within the Academic Affairs division.
Her professional interests include leadership development, film and media studies, and African American speculative fiction. She has published articles on African, African American, and Caribbean cinema, Black female iconography in American popular culture, and higher education administration. Stanley is the editor of The Encyclopedia of Hip Hop Literature (2008) and, most recently, a volume for the MLA’s teaching series titled Approaches to Teaching the Works of Octavia Butler (2019), which won the 2021 Teaching Literature Book Award from Idaho State University.
Dr. Stanley received the A.B. in English from Duke University and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English (with an emphasis in media studies) from the University of Florida at Gainesville where she was a McKnight Doctoral Fellow.
