Get to Know the Team: Emily Nyberg

September 10, 2015 — Posted by Carolyn Pierson '06

09_NybergHave you ever wondered who is on the Sing For Joy team? Besides Pastor Bruce Benson, the program host, there are a few others working behind the scenes to bring the program to your ears every week. In July we introduced you to Jeff O'Donnell, executive producer and last month you got to know Joshua Wyatt, associate producer. Today, in honor of all of the students heading back to school, we sit down with our senior student worker Emily Nyberg, who serves as communications assistant for Sing For Joy.

How long have you been involved with Sing For Joy?
1 year

What is your current role at Sing For Joy?
I'm the Communications Assistant, which involves working with the Communications Coordinator, Carolyn Pierson, to post on Sing For Joy's social media handles (TwitterFacebook and Instagram).

If someone peeked in your office, what would they find sitting on your desk?
You'd most likely find my laptop and a cup of tea.

What is your favorite "season" of the church year?
I love Advent season. It coincides with the end of a semester of classes, the St. Olaf Christmas Festival, and being able to see my family once again. My family has a couple of Advent traditions, which include lighting the advent wreath and spending time listening to Christmas with the Dale Warland Singers.

What is one of your all-time favorite hymns?
My favorite hymn is "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty." I particularly enjoy F. Melius Christiansen's arrangement of it, which I have sung several times in various choral ensembles I've been a member of.

Tell me about one of your favorite Sing For Joy memories:
I have enjoyed setting up the Sing For Joy Instagram account! Taking photos around St. Olaf College has given me the opportunity to rediscover the beautiful campus I am fortunate to be able to call home.

What do you love most about your job and being part of the Sing For Joy team?
Sing For Joy is a wonderful radio program that shares a great selection of choral hymns and music that corresponds to the different moods of the liturgical calendar, and it is a privilege to be a part of the team that shares this music each week. I really enjoy that I am able to be a part of the Sing For Joy team in addition to my full-time studies at St. Olaf College.

What is something our readers don't know about you?
I am a soloist and third-year member of the St. Olaf Choir!
