The St Olaf Women's Basketball Team returned from the holiday break to play the St. Catherine Wildcats on January 4th. The Oles were unable to handle St. Kate?s full court pressure in the first half, and the Wildcats jumped to an early lead by capitalizing on Ole turnovers. With their opponents shooting 45.7 percent in the second half, St. Olaf was not able to close the scoring gap and fell 74-56.

Key game statistics were team turnover totals, with the Oles committing 23, and the Wildcats, 16. While the Oles shot 80 percent from the free throw line, they only got there ten times and did not shoot well from the three-point arc.

Jill Johnson (Jr. Butterfield, Minn.) played very well inside for St. Olaf, completing a few three-point plays. She went five for seven from the field and scored 14 points. Sara Erickson (Sr. Cambridge, Minn.) scored 12 while Kelly Sweeney (Jr. Oakdale, Minn.) added eight points and three steals. Mayme Cupkie (Sr. Owatonna, Minn.) was the leading rebounder for the Oles with six and Kristy Larson (So. St. Ansgar, Iowa) grabbed five rebounds.

Adrienne Mulville scored 16 points for the Wildcats, and Jenna Martin had a double-double with ten rebounds and 14 points.

St. Olaf next travels to St. Joseph, Minnesota to play the College of Saint Benedict on Monday, January 6th at 7:30 p.m. The Oles will host the Bethel College Royals on Wednesday, January 8th at 7:30 pm.
