Second half comeback not enough for men's basketball

Bethel College had a 15-point first half lead and held off St. Olaf College 72-64 Wednesday night at the Robertson Center in Arden Hills, Minn.

The Oles (7-4, 3-3) cut the Royal lead to 61-57 with 2:40 to play. Bethel (8-4, 6-1), however, went 9-for-10 from the line in the final minutes to secure the victory.

Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) and Tim Nelson (Sr., Braham, Minn.)had 20 and 19 points for St. Olaf. Justin Bonestroo (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) had a team-high 10 boards.

Andy Gilbert's 30 points led Bethel.

St. Olaf out-rebounded the Royals 49-42 and shot better from the field and the arc. Bethel held a decided advantage from the free throw line, shooting 22-of-24, while the Oles were just 14-for-23.

St. Olaf will try to snap the two-game skid on Saturday when they travel to Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis to meet Augsburg. The game is set for 3 p.m. and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
