Ole women beat Mac 68-52, extend winning streak to three

The St. Olaf women's basketball team secured their third straight conference win, defeating Macalaster College on Wednesday 68-52 in St. Paul.

Liz Mundahl (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) had a game-high 17 points, while Jill Johnson (Jr, Butterfield, Minn.) added 15 points, going five-for-seven from the field. Point-guard Molly Simon (So, Hudson, Wis.) added eight points.

The Oles came out hot, and led 13-3 in the first eight minutes of the game. The Scots came within three with 14 seconds remaining in the first half before Mundahl scored a field goal with six seconds left. St. Olaf led 32-27 at the half. St. Olaf went on a 19-6 run in the middle of the second half to lead by as many as 16. St. Olaf shot 50.0 percent from the field in the second frame, while Macalester shot just 34.8. The Oles out-rebounded the Scots 48-31.

Rebounding well for St. Olaf were Mayme Cupkie (Sr, Owatonna, Minn.) and Kristy Larson (So, St. Ansgar, Iowa) with 11 and ten rebounds respectively. Afton Hanson had 13 points for the Scots, connecting on nine of 13 free-throw attempts.

The Oles play the University of St. Thomas at Skoglund Athletic Center Saturday, January 18 at 3:00 p.m.
