Tommies down Ole men 74-65

The 13th-ranked St. Thomas men's basketball team won their tenth game and 18th straight MIAC home contest, defeating St. Olaf 74-65 Saturday afternoon in St. Paul.

Kevin Jaunich (Sr., Delano, Minn) had 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half for St. Olaf.

The Oles cut the St. Thomas advantage to four three times, the first with just over four minutes left on an Andy Grimsrud (So., Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) three-pointer. The Toms outscored St. Olaf. 16-7 in the final minutes to secure the win. Grimsrud finished with six points.

The Tommies had five players in double figures, led by Sean Sweeny's 15 points .

Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) and Matt Schlenker added 14 and 10 points for the Oles. Ludwig is in a second-place tie with Dan Halvorsen '73 with 1,388 career points.

St. Thomas jumped to a nine-point lead in the first half before St. Olaf countered with a 14-2 run to lead 27-24. The Toms led 41-35 at the break.

St. Olaf hosts Hamline University i the last game of the first half of the MIAC season Monday night at at 7:30 p.m. at Skoglund Athletic Center. The game is free of admission and can be heard on 920 AM.
